The Good Shepherd and other Mass Murders 7 Mind Manipulation, America!

THE GOOD SHEPHERD Example--Using Films to Teach American Studies in a Foreign Land
By Kevin Stoda

For decades I have been using film to teach culture—especially American culture-- in my foreign language courses around the world. Interestingly, the same practice is undertaken both directly and indirectly by movie channels around the globe on a regular basis. For example, yesterday the Saudi-owned MBC (Middle East Broadcasting)movie channels showed both the film, THE GOOD SHEPHERD (2006),

and the action series or drama, ALCATRAZ.

The allusions in the Matt Damon and Robert Deniro classic movie, THE GOOD SHEPHERD , on the CIA-OSS stories in the pre- and post-WWII eras to how truth and individuals are-and-were manipulated and experimented upon by criminals masquerading as patriots and real-politikers in one film play out in the modern twisted crime drama of modern and 1960s San Francisco. There is absolutely no reason to believe that the juxtaposition of these tales are accidental.

MBC programming personnel have been selectively juxtaposing dramas for many years so that linkages between story lines between one modern or ancient tale find their dots connected by being placed on MBC thematically or simply in a timely manner by reflecting modern crises In the real world of international politics with film or dramas which capture—sometimes ironically—the world we live in today and subtly the history or background we need to better appreciate events on the global stage marching on before us. For example, at the time when the USA was first drawing down USA forces in Afghanistan in January of this year, MBC decided to play the movie, CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR ( 2007) ,

which concludes with a comment about America “screwing up the end-game.”

The reason I stated above that there are linkages in both ALCATRAZ (the series) and , THE GOOD SHEPHERD,--both of which were shown yesterday—and the real news stories we are viewing today out of the Middle East, the USA, and elsewhere in 2012 include the many allusions to manipulations of individuals and brainwashing of individuals to commit crimes and to change one’s belief or disbelief in what is fact and what is fiction. Less than a week ago yesterday an American soldier, who was trained to be a killer, walked into two village and killed and 16 innocent peoples in rural Afghanistan.

Such an American soldier-killer-victim character comes right out of the brainwashing-, mind-manipulations, hysteria, and war-making practices revealed in THE GOOD SHEPHERD. In THE GOOD SHEPHERD, the main protagonist, named Edwin Wilson, spends his life covering up for his shame—i.e. that perhaps his dad, who had supposedly committed suicide, had almost betrayed his homeland. Edwin then is willing to give up his soul to pursue this vision of himself defending America against all enemies. For this he is willing to put the USA in a state of perpetual war against the Soviets and betray friends and enemies while trusting know-one. As one of the co-founders of the modern CIA after WWII Wilson builds modern America after his own image—creating a fear filled house for his son to grow up in while creating a distrusting fear-filled nation state our of post-war USA.
Such activities included not only framing and accepting the murder of innocents (who were potentially dangerous) but led to the horrible MK ULTRA program

and experiments on many innocent prisoners.

“It was the 1950s, a time of doo-wop, sock hops and Bobby Rydell, when Americans dusted off the remnants of WWII and looked toward a more optimistic society. Or so it's often thought. But the '50s were often less Happy Days and more The Day the Earth Stood Still, as fears of a Cold War and mistrust of the government were just beginning to bloom. Since those fears couldn't always be talked about, they came through in films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, with themes of technology run riot and the loss of free will.
These "delusional fears" were actually rooted in reality, as the government was taking steps toward turning American soldiers into unthinking, unfeeling machines with help from brainwashing and LSD. The CIA, while learning how to bring down Communists, was also learning from them — specifically how they used mind control on Korean War prisoners. Could this mind control also create a zombie-like US soldier, one who would follow orders no matter how grisly, or withstand any amount of torture if captured?
The combination of hypnosis, shock therapy and drugs like LSD and Ketamine made this seem a possibility, and were investigated in a mind control research program called MK-ULTRA. MK-ULTRA was funded by millions of U.S. dollars and led by a scientist named Sidney Gottlieb. In his book The Very Best Men, Evan Thomas describes Gottlieb as "born with a club foot and a stutter, he compensated by becoming an expert folk dancer and obtaining a Ph.D. from Cal Tech … he drank only goat's milk and grew Christmas trees, which he sold at a roadside stand." That is, when he wasn't drugging research subjects.
The goals of MK-ULTRA included investigating the following:
• Materials which will render the induction of hypnosis easier or otherwise enhance its usefulness.
• Substances which will enhance the ability of individuals to withstand privation, torture and coercion during interrogation and so-called "brain-washing".
• Materials and physical methods which will produce amnesia for events preceding and during their use.
• Physical methods of producing shock and confusion over extended periods of time and capable of surreptitious use.
• A knockout pill which could surreptitiously be administered in drinks, food, cigarettes, as an aerosol, etc., which will be safe to use, provide a maximum of amnesia, and be suitable for use by agent types on an ad hoc basis.”

Such techniques of brainwashing have been given further given form in the unusual crime-series, ALCATRAZ. Like in ALCATRAZ and in THE GOOD SHEPHERD, viewers are being led to believe that the murders of innocence are something we can all brush off in the name of some illusory GREATER GOOD.

“In 1955, on behalf of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) project MKULTRA, former Federal Bureau of Narcotics officer George White rented a three-story building on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. For the next ten years, the CIA paid prostitutes to lure men to this location and surreptitiously dose them with LSD or other psychoactive drugs. Known as ‘Operation Midnight Climax’, this project was one of several exploring LSD's potential use as a mind control tool by the U.S. Intelligence Community.”
Such LSD experiments are part of both the film, THE GOOD SHEPHERD and the ongoing series on MBC Action Channel’ ALCATRAZ.
I suggest readers and viewers of American culture take time to gather as much information on what Saudi-owned TV is revealing about American culture and history these days. I.e. as too many Americans remain ambivalent to the true tales alluded to in film, the rest of the planet is not. They think that manipulation of Americans, its soldiers, its statesmen, and the American public as a whole are simply victims of an ongoing CIA-MK ULTRA America that cannot be denied.
Just look at Americans prisons and soldiers inside-and-outside the USA to get a grasp of how others are viewing us this 2012.
