Flowers and song–What’s on your mind this April 4?

http://eslkevin.wordpress.com/2011/04/03/what-does-april-4-mean-to-you/

As today is children’s day in Taiwan and memories of my childhood spring forth with spring and for this occasion, I suddenly remembered this Pete Seger song (dated around 1955):

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE

As Joan Baez and many others have sung and said, it is cathartic to go through the cycle.

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

As I was born and raised the first 13 years of my life in the American of the Vietnam-American War, it is only logical that it is one of the tunes of my youth.

What are you doing and thinking about this April 4?
