If the United Nations can’t help the people of Libya, perhaps Refugee International can help

I have supported Refugees International in the past. I am hapy to see that they can get into the needy areas of Libya and Egypt and offer to help out.–KAS You could consider helping out, too. Send a donation.
Dear Supporter,

This weekend, Refugees International is traveling to Libya, Tunisia and Egypt to generate support and assistance for the vulnerable people affected by the escalating violence inside Libya.

But we need your help to make this happen.
(Donate here at web address below!)

I was appalled when Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi brutally crushed peaceful protests throughout the country a few weeks ago. He deployed fighter jets and sent in troops who indiscriminately shot unarmed protesters. The number of deaths has been impossible to confirm. More than 200,000 people have fled for their lives into Tunisia and Egypt. Others are trapped inside the country – prevented from seeking refuge across the border.

Please donate today to increase support for those people who are most at risk from the conflict inside Libya.

Refugees International will spend the next two weeks speaking to the victims inside Libya and neighboring countries. As the country descends into all-out civil war, more and more people may seek refuge from the violence. The new governments in Egypt and Tunisia have already welcomed thousands of people into their countries. But these new governments will be hard pressed to continue to receive large influxes of new people and maintain law and order unless the international community comes to their assistance quickly.

The instability in Libya will have consequences across Africa. We must make sure that agencies are prepared to provide shelter, food, health care, and protection for growing numbers of displaced people.

Please help us respond to this growing crisis.

If you donate now, your donation will go twice as far. A generous Board member has offered to match every dollar raised online before midnight on March 18, up to $30,000.

Your donation will make it possible for Refugees International to:

Send a team to the region who can witness first-hand the needs of those most vulnerable to the growing violence in Libya.
Increase media attention to the plight of people trapped inside the country so that the world cannot ignore them.
Call on policy makers in the U.S. and Europe to help provide humanitarian support as more people flee the conflict.

But we cannot do this without your help. Refugees International receives no government or UN funding and relies on the generosity of our supporters to make our work possible.

Please double your impact and donate today.

Sincerely,

Michel Gabaudan
President, Refugees International
