America, is your governor trying to Keep your State addicted to foreign Oil? Recall them in 2011-2012–kAS
Dear Kevin,
With gas prices nearing $4 a gallon and oil prices over $100 per barrel, it is hard to believe that Tea Party-backed governors— like Wisconsin’s Scott Walker—are doing everything they can to keep us addicted to oil.
As one of the starkest examples, these governors are rejecting billions of dollars to build 21st century high-speed rail that would help cut our dangerous dependence on oil and reduce harmful pollution.
Click here to help us fight the radical, anti-environment Tea Party agenda by standing up for clean, efficient, affordable transportation policies.
In just a few weeks, new transportation legislation will be introduced in the U.S. House. But Tea Party-backed governors are already standing firmly opposed to transportation solutions that reduce oil consumption while putting Americans back to work.
*
In Wisconsin, Governor Walker rejected an $810 million federal grant for a high-speed rail line between Milwaukee and Madison, declaring the project “dead.”
*
In Ohio, Governor John Kasich turned down nearly $400 million from the Department of Transportation for a high-speed rail line between Cleveland and Cincinnati.
*
In Florida, Governor Rick Scott—siding with his backers in the Tea Party—rejected $2.4 billion in Department of Transportation funds for a rail line between Tampa and Orlando
But we’re not standing by and letting the Tea Party take over—two weeks ago, in protest of Governor Scott’s decision, we helped mobilize more than 3,000 Floridians to stand up and speak out.
Stand up to the Tea Party and their corporate backers— support environmentally-sound, job-creating clean transportation solutions like high-speed rail. Click here to sign our petition to Congress.
Increasing access to high-speed rail, public transit and other low carbon transportation options will create good-paying jobs and reduce our addiction to oil. A recent analysis of the 2009 Recovery Act found that public transportation projects created 70 percent more jobs per dollar than road projects.
With over 70 percent of the oil used by the U.S. in the transportation sector and Congress poised to act on transportation legislation, we can’t sit idly by and let corporate special interests set the agenda. We can’t afford to stay silent while Tea Party activists set out to destroy sound, job-creating transportation policies that are good for our environment and our economy.
Click here to tell Congress that America needs a transportation system that ends our dependence on oil and provides clean, efficient, and affordable transportation options.
Corporate special interests and their Tea Party allies are attacking our environment on all fronts, but we are fighting their radical, pro-polluter agenda at every turn, at every level of government. We hope you’ll stand with us.
